Last Tuesday night we had Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, corn and dessert. The movie was Talladega Nights.
* We had one young man share with a mentor last week that he had a small gideon bible and wanted a bigger one. He is a smoker and decided to buy less cigarettes to set money aside for a new bible. He succeeded and was showing him his new bible.
* We had two families that have only been coming down recently. They have gotten out of shelter and into apartments. They still are in a great deal of need for food, diapers and other essentials.
* We had a young woman deliver a baby last week. She is not in stable housing just staying with friends.
* Another mom had DHS close her case this week. This is great news because she has been working very hard to get her life on track and takes very good care of her 18 month old.
* We recently celebrated two of the kids 2nd birthdays. In both situations this was the only party that the kids got.

Last week was a very busy week. Tuesday was a fun night because we got to do our Christmas in January. We handed out about 80 band new wrapped sweatshirts. Also, everyone that attended received socks, hat, gloves, and hand warmers. We were able to catch up with the two families that missed our Christmas party in December and get them their gifts as well. We also had three field trips, an outreach walk were we handed out socks and granola bars to about half a dozen people, and our play group had four families in attendance. Two more of our families shared their appreciation for their Christmas gifts. One mother was teary eyed as she shared with us how much it meant to her family. Another mother told us that it was the best Christmas she could remember.

Last week was again challenging due to the weather. As you all know we canceled our holiday meal. We will be holding it on January 6th. One family received their gifts on Tuesday last week and one on Christmas eve. It was a joy to see the little ones open their gifts. There are only a couple of families that did not get their gifts before Christmas. We will work to connect with them.
Over the weekend, we had a young mother (with no transportation) get cut while cooking. They called D&M for a ride to the hospital. We were able to find a volunteer that lives near them to get them to the hospital. It only needed a few stitches. It was great to be able to get them help quickly.
