This week the weather was a challenge to the work we do with the youth.  As you all know we canceled Tuesday night’s meal.  Most of the youth we work with were in emergency shelters.  We also wanted to ensure the safety of our volunteers.  Despite the weather we did pick up many toy donations for family sponsorships and the gifts from the parents.  What a blessing to see so many toys come in.

There were a couple of counseling sessions and a field trip lunch but by far the highlight of th week was our Christmas party for the families yesterday.  We had eight families with nine kids in attendance.  We were missing some families due to the weather.  Many of the families were touched by the gifts.  One mom cried and said that we made Christmas happen for her family this year.  They were not going to have money for any gifts for their 18 month old or money for a Christmas meal.  In fact she did not have a winter coat for him.  The people that sponsored her bought a new coat and snow bibs.

Next week we will need to connect the other gifts with the families that couldn’t make it.  We also changed our plans for meals due to last weeks weather.  We will be doing our big feast with presents on Tuesday night and a small invite only meal on Christmas day.  We need help with cooking and wrapping on Tuesday.  Please let me know if you might be able to help out.
